Experimental characterization of structural components of metal racks

Since 1980, tests and analysis are carried out for structural components of metal racks. Nowadays, it is the most important area in technology transfer. LERMA (Laboratori d'Elasticitat i Resistència de Materials) is the laboratory with more experience and specialization in this area, nationwide, and it is one of the pioneer laboratories in Europe. The work is carried out mainly through experimental tests of components and groups of components, but also by analytical methods and numerical simulation by finite elements. + info

Design, analysis and testing of a new type of container for the manipulation of cava bottles

LERMA's proposal was an innovating container and different to the existing ones in the market, based on a structure of rectangular steel tubes welded, galvanized and a closing based on a steel sheet (and of aluminium at the door) cold-rolled, formed to guide the bottles, and with holes for emptying the leftovers and controlling the product. The transport of the container is done with a special mechanism next to the wheelbarrow that catches a bar from the container.

PLA MODIFICATION BY REACTIVE EXTRUSION TO IMPROVE THE PROCESSING, FRACTURE BEHAVIOUR AND THE PREPARATION OF BIODEGRADABLE NANOCOMPOSITES

This project sets up the improvement of poly(lactic acid) properties to extend its use in technological applications that require higher thermal resistance and better fracture behavior. Even though the preparation of nanocomposites with PLA could improve, theoretically, these properties, it has been proved (as in the preceding project MAT-2007-62450) that the degradation that undergoes the material during its processing, in the practice, takes away such improvements.

OPERATIONAL BEHAVIOUR AND STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THERMOPLASTIC MICROCELULLAR FOAMS PROCESSED VIA INJECTION MOULDING.

This project is concerned with the influence of the processing parameters to obtain thermoplastic microcellular foams on the mechanical and fracture behaviour of two thermoplastic materials: polypropylene, PP, and polyethylenetelephthalate, PET.
