SALEM: Automatic Segmentation of lesions for diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis

The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system, causing loss of motor ability, sensory, visual coordination of walking and cognitive function, among other symptoms. The prevalence in Europe is between 47 and 83 persons per 100,000 inhabitants. The diagnosis of MS is complex and requires a thorough neurological examination along with other complementary examinations. Of these, the most important is MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) to detect lesions, axonal loss and cerebral atrophy. To relieve / assist the work of radiologists in this project SALEM proposes to develop a software prototype that allows the automatic segmentation of MS lesions using different methods of MRI studies correlated where possible as a temporary patient. + info


PROSCAN: TRUS-MR Image Fusion for prostate cancer localization

The PROSCAN project aims at assisting the biopsy procedure in transrectal Ultrasound by incorporating the information of the MR-S images, thus having a certain localization of the biopsy sample and being able to correlate with both the TRUS and MRS image. If succeed, the PROSCAN project could change the biopsy protocol from many random functions to a single localized one, reducing the patient recovery time and hassle, diagnosis and treatment costs and the number of negative re-biopsies. + info
